Life Membership
Description: Life Membership may be granted to any member who meets the criteria listed in the MASN operating Guidelines.
Eligibility: To be eligibile for Life Membership, the nominee must meet all of the following criteria.
1. Active in school nursing 15 years or move.
2. Member of MASN district and state organizations 10 or more years as active, associate, or retired/active retired.
3. Served on BOD in district and/or state organizations.
4. Shall not be in MASN elected office at presentation time.
5. Made significant contributions to school nursing or the school health program at the state level.
6. Initiated programs for students that strengthen the educational process through improvement of health.
7. Organized and/or furthered district organization.
8. Active or retired from school nursing.
9. Worked on a committee at state level.

Procedure for Submission of Application:
1. Letter of recommendation (original plus two copies) should be submitted from nominee's MASN district, postmarked no later than October1, to the Awards Committee chair.
2. Provide specific information with dates of the above noted qualifications in the letter.

Selection Process:
1. Letter of recommendation demonstrating eligibility of the nominee must be postmarked no later than October 1.
2. Life Membership will be granted to all nominees who meet the eligibility criteria.
3. Awards Committee chair verifies MASN membership and other required eligibility information.
4. Awards Committee chair will arrange for a neutral person or persons to be involved in award selection if a member of the committee has a conflict of interest (i.e., the committee members are from the same district as the nominee.
5. If nominee(s) does (do) not meet eligibility or submission criteria, letter(s) of recommendation will be returned prior to reviewing with a letter of explanation from the Awards Committee chair.
6. Awards Committee discusses the merits of the letter of recommendation and prepares a presentation to the BOD for approval at the fall board meeting.

Award Process:
1. Awards Committee chair presents the nominee(s) to the BOD at the fall board meeting.
2. President shall notify the nominee's(s') MASN district president of the OBOD decision to grant, deny or delay Life Membership.
3. President will notify the school administrator(s) of any individual granted MASN Life Membership.
4. Awards Committee will purchase an engraved silver bowl, silver tray or glass paperweight on a wood base to be presented to the nominee(s) approved by the BOD at the annual meeting. Funding for the Life Membership gift wil be approved by the Executive Committee.
5. Awards Committee will coordinate the purchase of corsage(s) for the award recipient(s) with the MASN district conference host.
6. The honoree(s) and one guest will have luncheon or banquet dinner cost paid for by MASN.
